はじめに
記憶の谷間に埋もれていた曲がまた偶然蘇った。
61年11月に全米1位となったオールデイズの名曲で、日本ではスリーファンキーズのカバーの方が有名だった。
原題は「Runaround Sue」
Ernie Maresca、Dion DiMucci作。
邦題は当初は「悲しい恋の物語」だったものがその後「浮気なスー」に変わったようだが経緯は不明。日本の若い世代は「ひらけ！ポンキッキ」で聞いていた人も多いはず。
「トンデヘレヘレ」のコーラスが印象的で悲しい歌詞なのに底抜けに陽気で文句無く楽しい気分になるアメリカのゴールデン60’sを代表する名曲である。
今でも若い世代に受け入れられ愛されている証拠が曲名で検索してヒットしたファイル数の多さである。
自宅や小さな集会で歌ったり踊ったりはもちろん、ラインダンス、コーラスグループによるパフォーマンス、更には若い世代のプロが出しているremix版と50年の年月を超えてこの曲が受け継がれていることを実感できた。

ディオンのプロフィール
この曲を歌ったディオン（Dion）は39年ニューヨーク・ブロンクス生まれのイタリア系アメリカ人である。
両親が芸能人で歌やギターが身近な環境で育ち、クラブで歌ったり彼の音楽性を決定付けるドゥー・ワップとの出会い等もあった青春時代を送った後、57年リードボーカルとしてドゥー・ワップ・グループ「ディオン＆ベルモンツ（Dion & The Belmonts）」に参加。
日本においてはこの「浮気なスー」しか知られていない彼だが、実はその前にグループで「Where Or When（いつかどこかで）」の全米3位を含めトップ10入り2曲を記録している。
しかし60年にはソロ転向し、2曲目がこの曲で彼の代表曲となった。その後もトップ10にヒット曲を送り込み続けたが日本では殆ど知られていない。
ヒットを連発していたディオンも64年にビートルズがアメリカ上陸した頃からは鳴かず飛ばず状態となった。ところが68年にはヒットチャートに返り咲き全米4位を獲得する。
89年にはロックの殿堂入りを果たし、デビューから50年以上経った現在も「懐メロ歌手」ではなく「ロッカー」として現役で活動しているというから恐れ入る。

無名の（筆者が知らないという意味）歌手のカバーやremix版も数多く聞いたが、好みに合ったのはDel Shannonのものをはじめ以下のものだけであった。
